Introduction

Norway has a rich World War II history that is so often overlooked and unrecognized in the focus on pivotal events and battles in other parts of Europe—The Blitz, D-Day, Battle of the Bulge, and Anzio, to name a few. But Norwegians had their fair share of sacrifice, courage, suffering, and tragedy during five years of tyranny under Nazi Germany’s rule.

I am using this blog to share some of that history. During my research for A Coat Dyed Black, I compiled a wealth of material from books, documents, visits to Norway and interviews with Norwegians who participated in resistance activity and experienced the hardships inflicted by the Nazis, not only the Germans but also traitors.

My posts won’t follow any chronology or order of importance. They will be written at random at the whim of the author. It might be describing an event on the anniversary of when it occurred. At times, I may share fact and tidbits I come across in sorting through my files. I could share a link to online information I find.

My hope is that you, my readers, find relevance in these posts and learn something about the war years in Norway. And above all, I hope you enjoy A Coat Dyed Black.
